Critics of the late bigoted discuss radio host Rush Limbaugh are livid that Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis is honoring the person with an order to fly state flags at half employees.

“What we do when there’s things of this magnitude, once the date of interment for Rush is announced, we’re going to be lowering the flags to half-staff,” DeSantis mentioned at a political rally Friday in West Palm Beach, reported the Tampa Bay Times.

“Rush busted through a media landscape in which a handful of media outlets served up pre-cooked, liberal narratives,” DeSantis mentioned earlier this week. He impressed a “loyal army of American patriots,” the governor added.

Limbaugh, who lived in Palm Beach, died Wednesday of lung most cancers at 70. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Donald Trump final yr.

“Rush Limbaugh weaponized his platform to spread racism, xenophobia and homophobia across the nation,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.) tweeted Friday in response to the governor’s resolution. “DeSantis’ decision to honor him is an embarrassment to Florida.”

Rush Limbaugh weaponized his platform to unfold racism, xenophobia and homophobia throughout the nation. His fixed hateful rhetoric triggered untold injury to our political panorama. DeSantis’ resolution to honor him is a humiliation to Florida.https://t.co/MkzU46Krzj

Gary Farmer, the Democratic minority chief of the state Senate, slammed the governor for taking the motion as a “partisan political tool” slightly than as a software of recognition for individuals who “have honorably and bravely served our state and our nation.”

He added: “Any move to lower our flag in deference to a man who helped drive the hatred and inflame the prejudices against marginalized groups, people of color, women, and anyone who did not look like him or think like him is wrong, and should be rescinded,” Farmer mentioned in a press release. “This is not who we are. This is not who we want to be.”

DeSantis’ order would seem to interrupt the state’s personal Flag Protocol. State flags are to be lowered solely on sure holidays honoring veterans; if a gift or former governor of Florida dies; if an energetic service member from Florida dies; if a distinguished state official dies or if a regulation enforcement officer is killed within the line of responsibility.

A constituent might formally request that flags be lowered for another cause, but it surely wasn’t instantly clear if that occurred on this case.

Here is Florida Governor’s protocol for reducing flags at half employees. I don’t see how DeSantis’ ordering them at half employees for Rush Limbaugh suits inside protocol. https://t.co/E7FONRsNk4

.@GovRonDeSantis is reducing Florida’s flags to half-staff for Rush Limbaugh.

But he had no phrases for Congressman John Lewis.

Priorities. https://t.co/ZdYsCkaorP

Any American who needs Joe Biden to order flags to be flown at half-staff for Rush Limbaugh has simply disgraced and insulted fallen troopers, police, and public servants of the United States.

Hey, all you Rush Limbaugh followers on the market must know that racism, xenophobia, homophobia and misogyny are NOT merely a unique standpoint. They are issues that actually hurt, typically kill, different human beings. Flying flags at half-staff or honoring Limbaugh is disgusting.
