The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday handed by voice vote a Bill that checks non secular conversions by marriage or by another fraudulent means.
The Bill earlier changed the ordinance, cleared by the Cabinet in December and promulgated in January, which had provisions of 10 years imprisonment in some circumstances and hefty tremendous for violators.
On March 1, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra introduced the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill 2021 within the House.
After a dialogue on the Bill, it was handed by voice vote within the Assembly on Monday.
Governor Anandiben Patel on January 9 gave assent to the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Ordinance, 2020, which penalised non secular conversions by fraudulent means, together with these for the sake of marriage.
The ordinance penalised non secular conversions by misrepresentation, allurement, use of risk of power, undue affect, coercion, marriage or by another fraudulent means.
Last month, Home Minister Mishra had mentioned as many as 23 circumstances had been registered underneath the ordinance inside a month of it coming into power.
