Deb Haaland is now the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
She makes historical past as the primary Native American in a presidential cupboard.
Haaland is a former congresswoman from New Mexico and a member of the Pueblo Tribe.
Many native tribes together with the Saginaw-Chippewa Indian Tribe say they’ve been supporting Haaland since she first ran for the home in 2018.
She was even invited to their summer season pow-wow in 2019.
They say Haaland’s accomplishments spotlight what Native youth can hope to realize.
“It brings a sense of, an indigenous attitude, and timekeeping with our culture, being stewards of mother earth. And what better than a proud kway, a proud Native woman, a strong individual to lead that fight,” stated Frank Cloutier, Director of Public Relations.
The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe says they’re planning to ask the brand new Secretary of the Interior to their pow-wow once more this summer season.
